Our Dental Gold Scrap consists of discarded dental restorative materials containing significant quantities of gold and other precious metals (platinum, palladium, silver). This scrap originates from dental clinics, dental laboratories, and decommissioned dental work, including old crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, partial denture frameworks, and other gold-alloy restorations that have been removed, replaced, or are no longer usable.
Dental gold alloys typically have much higher gold content than most electronic scrap, making this a premium feedstock for precious metal refiners. Gold content can vary from 10 karats (41.7% gold) to 22 karats (91.7% gold), with many common dental alloys falling in the 14K–18K range (58.3%–75% gold). Additionally, these alloys often contain platinum group metals (PGMs) that add further value.
Typical Dental Gold Alloy Composition Ranges:
| Alloy Type | Gold (%) | Silver (%) | Platinum/Palladium (%) | Other Metals |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High-Gold (Type IV) | 75–85% | 5–10% | 5–15% (Pt, Pd) | Copper, Zinc, Iridium |
| Medium-Gold | 40–60% | 20–40% | 0–10% (Pd) | Copper, Zinc, Tin |
| Low-Gold (Silver-Palladium) | 10–30% | 30–50% | 10–25% (Pd) | Copper, Zinc, Indium |
| Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) | 50–85% | 5–20% | 5–15% | Tin, Indium, Iron |
| Gold Inlays/Onlays | 70–90% | 5–15% | 2–10% | Copper, Zinc |
Note: Each batch varies. Assaying is recommended for accurate pricing.
What Is Included in Our Dental Gold Scrap:
| Item | Description | Typical Gold Purity |
|---|---|---|
| Crowns (full cast gold) | Entire crown cast from gold alloy | 10K–22K |
| Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) crowns | Gold alloy coping with porcelain fused on top (porcelain removed or included) | 50–85% gold in metal portion |
| Bridges (gold alloy) | Multi-unit restorations | 10K–22K |
| Gold inlays & onlays | Intracoronal restorations | 14K–22K |
| Partial denture frameworks | Some cast gold frames | 10K–18K |
| Gold posts & cores | Endodontic posts, build-ups | 10K–18K |
| Dental lab scraps | Casting sprues, buttons, polishing scraps | Same as alloy used |
Key Benefits for Refiners:
-
High gold concentration – Typically 40–85% vs 0.1–2% in e-waste
-
Lower processing costs – Less acid, less energy, less waste per gram of gold recovered
-
Known alloys – Many are stamped with karat marks or manufacturer codes
-
Includes PGMs – Platinum and palladium add extra value
-
Clean material – Minimal ceramic or organic contamination (we can remove porcelain upon request)
Gold Content Estimate (Industry Averages – Unprocessed Scrap):
| Scrap Type | Gold Yield (grams per kg) | Equivalent Karat (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| High-gold cast crowns (no porcelain) | 700–850 g/kg | 17K–20K |
| Medium-gold PFM (metal only) | 400–600 g/kg | 10K–14K |
| Low-gold / silver-palladium | 100–300 g/kg | 2K–7K |
| Mixed dental scrap (as-is with some porcelain) | 300–600 g/kg | 7K–14K |
| Laboratory bench sweeps / polishing waste | 50–300 g/kg | Varies widely |
Actual yields depend on specific alloys and processing method.
Processing Recommendations for Refiners:
| Step | Method |
|---|---|
| 1. Sorting | Separate high-gold (yellow color) from low-gold (pale/silver color) |
| 2. Porcelain removal (if present) | Hammer, tumbler, or hydrofluoric acid (professional only) |
| 3. Melting | Induction or torch melt into doré bars for sampling |
| 4. Assay | Fire assay or XRF to determine precise gold content |
| 5. Refining | Aqua regia, Miller chlorination, or electrolytic refining |
Safety Note: Dental scrap may contain mercury (from amalgam) if mixed. We do not sell mercury-contaminated scrap. Our dental gold scrap is mercury-free.
Available Quantities:
-
Small sample lots: 50g – 200g (for testing/assay)
-
Wholesale lots: 500g – 2 kg
-
Bulk lots: 3 kg – 10 kg

Large volumes available by arrangement
Quality & Condition:
-
Porcelain may still be attached to some PFM crowns – we indicate percentage of porcelain by weight
-
Pieces may have minor residual cement or tissue – minimal, but allowed in scrap
-
Some units may be worn, broken, or incomplete – still fully recoverable
-
No amalgam, no mercury, no extracted teeth (biohazard-free)
-
Traceable sourcing – only from legitimate dental suppliers and licensed recyclers
Important Legal Note:
Dental gold scrap sold for precious metal recovery only. Not for reuse in medical or dental applications. Export/import may require permits depending on country; we assist with necessary documentation.
